About FOWFCP

Who we are and what we do

Formation

The Friends of Western Flatts Cliff Park (FoWFCP) is a non-profit community organisation formed in 2021 to proactively develop and improve the park and ensure it is looked after by the landowners, Leeds City Council.

The group is run by a small group of committed volunteers, who all live in the local area, and work closely with Leeds City Council’s Parks Department and the local Councillors to help maintain and improve the park.

Our aims

The aims and objectives of the Friends are:

  • Protect, enhance and maintain Western Flatts Cliff Park.
  • Help improve the facilities, resources and habitats of Western Flatts Cliff Park.
Increase public awareness of all aspects of Western Flatts Cliff Park.
Support other user groups to the benefit of Western Flatts Cliff Park.
  • Liaise with all appropriate organisations to achieve our objectives.
  • Further the aims and objectives laid out in the Friends of Western Flatts Cliff Park Management Plan.

FoWFCP use every single penny raised will go towards future family orientated events and park improvement projects. A recent example include the purchase of roses for the rose garden to aim to return it back to its former glory.

Working with Leeds City Council

FoWFCP liaise regularly with the council to discuss a variety of topics including potential projects they would like to see happen in the parks, events they would like to hold (both educational and family based) and improvements to the park. Where improvements are concerned, FoWFCP will work to raise funds to help implement them.

Since we began there have been a variety of park improvements and activities, encouraged or facilitated by the Friends Group.

  • Replanting of rose beds
  • Bulb planting
  • Maintenance of tennis courts and multi-use games areas
  • Installation of new children’s playground
  • Family events such as Easter Egg Hunt and Carol Concert
  • General maintenance of the park including tree clearance, leaf clearance and litter picking

Western Flatts Cliff Park is a gem in the heart of the Wortley and has some amazing views across Leeds. It also has the potential to be an amazing green space for the local community.

Protecting and improving the facilities is a priority, but we are limited as to what we can achieve as we are only a small group who do what they can in their spare time.

If you want to know more about community events and projects planned in the park, have an idea for a future park project, want to become a volunteer or simply lend a hand on an occasional basis, please do get in touch.
